Sum and Difference of Rupees and Paise
Actually, we do sum and difference for any numbers, quantities, and measurements too. In the same way, you can do the sum and difference for rupees and paise they help us in many ways like while comparing one thing with another thing to know the best. We do sum & difference for rupees and paise as we knew the addition or subtraction of ordinary numbers.
You can perform Rupees and Paise sum & difference calculations in two methods. One is with the conversion of paise and another is without the conversion of paise. Let’s see the procedures of both the models below to solve easily & quickly.
How to find Rupees & Paise Sum and Difference with Conversion?
The following points are to be pursued while solving the sum of rupees and paise and difference problems with conversion:
- First, we have to convert all the rupees to paise.
- Next, add or subtract all the paises as ordinary numbers and then express the number in rupees and paise.
- Now, have to convert paise to rupees, as we knew the paise is divided by 100 i.e., Rs 1 = 100 paise.
Addition and Subtraction of Rupees and Paise without Conversion
The following steps are to be pursued while solving the rupees and paise problems like addition and subtraction without conversion:
- First, we have to write the given amount in a column form followed by rupees and paise.
- Keep the rupees in the respective column and then paise in another column.
- Now, do the sum and difference of amounts you will do like ordinary numbers.
- Add both the amounts and decimal part value is the paise amount.
Just have a look at the below examples to get a clear image of both sum and difference of rupees & paise models.
Examples on Sum and Difference of Paise and Rupees
Example 1:
Find the sum of 25 rupees 20 paise and 40 rupees 60 paise?
Solution:
Given amount is 25 rupees 20 paise and 40 rupees 60 paise
Now, we do sum of the amounts without conversion.
Keep the rupees and paise amounts in columns.
Thus, the sum of rupees and paise is 65 rupees 80 paise.
Example 2:
Find the difference of 60 rupees 75 paise from 45 rupees 52 paise.
Solution:
Given amounts are 60 rupees 75 paise and 45 rupees 52 paise.
We use without conversion process to find the difference of given amounts.
Now, to find the difference of given amounts place the rupees and paise in a column.
Just have a look at how we do the difference of given rupees and paise below:
Hence the difference of rupees and paise is 15 rupees 2 paise.
Example 3:
A pencil box costs 40 rupees and a notebook costs 20 rupees. How much money is needed to pay for a pencil box and a Notebook?
Solution:
Cost of a pencil box = 40 rupees
Cost of a notebook = 20 rupees
To find the total money needed to buy the things, we have to add the amounts of both things.
Now, the total money to buy the two items is Rs. 40 + Rs. 20 = Rs. 60
Therefore, 60 rupees is the paying amount for a pencil box and a Notebook.
Example 4:
Find the sum and difference of rupees and paise for the following examples using the conversion process?
(i) 15 rupees + 26 rupees 05 paise
(ii) 64 rupees 28 paise – 42 rupees 15 paise
(iii) 13 rupees 10 paise – 8 rupees 8 paise
Solution:
To find the sum and difference of the above rupees and paise, we are using the conversion process here.
(i) Given 15 rupees + 26 rupees 05 paise
To know the sum of given amounts first convert the rupees to paise.
We know, 1 rupee = 100 paise.
Thus, Rs. 15 = 15×100 = 1500 P and
Rs. 26 = 26×100 = 2600 P.
Now, add the given amounts
1500P + ( 2600P + 5P) = 1500P + 2605P = 4,105P.
Next, we express the answer in the form of rupees and paise.
So, 4105P = 4105 ÷ 100 = 41 rupees 5 paise.
Therefore, the sum is Rs. 41.05
(ii) Given 64 rupees 28 paise – 42 rupees 15 paise
Now, convert rupees to paise i.e., Rs. 64 = 6400P, Rs. 42 = 4200P
Then, 64 rupees 28 paise – 42 rupees 15 paise = (6400P+28P) – ( 4200P+15P) = 6428P – 4215P = 2213P.
Express the answer in rupees and paise
So, 2213P = 2213 ÷ 100 = 22 rupees 13 paise.
Thus, the difference is Rs. 22.13.
(iii) Given 13 rupees 10 paise – 8 rupees 8 paise
First, convert rupees to paise
13 rupees = 1300P and 8 rupees = 800P
Now, 13 rupees 10 paise = 1300P+10P = 1310P and 8 rupees 8 paise = 800P+8P = 808P.
Now, differ the given amounts, i.e., 1310P – 808P = 502P.
Convert paise to rupees i.e., 1 rupee = 1/100 P.
So, 502P= 502÷100 = 5.02
Thus, the difference of rupees and paise is 5 rupees 2 paise.
