worksheet on multiplying integers example 2
Therefore, By multiplying (18) × (-5) we get the product -90.
iii. 4 × 12 × (-115)
By using associative property, we can arrange the given expression as
=12 × 4× (-115)
=48× (-115)
=-5520
Therefore, By multiplying 4 × 12 × (-115) we get the product -5520.
iv. (-13) × (106)
=(-13) × (100 + 6)
By using distributive property,we get
=(-13 × 100) + (-13 × 6)
=(-1300) + (-78)
=-1300-78
=-1378
Therefore, By multiplying (-13) × (106) we get the product -1378.

II. Find the values of the following

i. Find the value of 12 ×(-20) + (-20) × (-5) by using the properties.
ii. Find the value of 25 × (-14) +(-14) × (23)

Solution:

(i) By using commutative property we get
(-20) × 12 + (-20) × (-5)
By using distributive property we get
=(-20)[12+(-5)]
=(-20)[12-5]
=(-20)[7]
=-140
Hence the value of 12 ×(-20) + (-20) × (-5) is -140.

(ii) By using commutative property we get
25 × (-14) + (-14) × 23
By using distributive property we get
=(-14)[25+23]
=(-14)[48]
=-672
Hence the value of 25 × (-14) +(-14) × (23) is -672.

III. Determine each of the following products
i. 13 × 5
ii. 124 × (-17)
iii. (-25) × (-19)

Solution:

i. 13 × 5=65
Here the two numbers are positive. So the result is positive.
By multiplying 13, 5 we get the product as 65.

ii. worksheet on multiplying integers example 3
Here one number is positive and the other number is negative. The result is negative.
By multiplying 124, -17 we get the product as -2108.
iii. worksheet on multiplying integers example 4
Here the two numbers are negative. The result is positive.
By multiplying 25, 19 we get the product as +475.
iv. worksheet on multiplying integers example 5
Here one number is negative and the other number is positive. The result is negative.
By multiplying -1482 and 63 we get the product as -93366.

x. Word Problems on Multiplication
i. A test has 10 questions. Correct answers get +2 and incorrect answers -1. A student answered 4 questions incorrectly. How many points did the student score?
ii. The price of one share of stock fell Rs 6 each day for 7 days. How much value did one share of the stock lose after 7 days?
iii. A telephone company charges a late fee of Rs 25 each time a customer fails to pay on time. A customer missed the payment 3 times last year. At the customer’s request and out of courtesy, the telephone company decides to cancel all late fees for that year. How much money the telephone company will return to the customer?

Solution:

(i) Given,
For 1 correct answer, 2 points will be given.
For 1 incorrect answer, -1 point will be given.
A student answered 4 questions incorrectly i.e. 4 × -1=-4
For 10 correct answers, points will be 10 × 2=20
The points scored by the student is=20 – 4=16
Therefore, the Points scored by the student are 16.
(ii)
Each day, one share of the stock goes down by Rs 6. We can represent this situation with the integer Rs -6.
After 7 days, one share of a stock has gone down by -6 × 7 = -42
One share of a stock is now worth Rs 42 less.
(iii)
The amount of late fee the telephone company charged last year was -25 × 3
In order to return the money, the telephone company can do this math: -25 × -3
The customer will get money=-25 × -3=Rs 75
Therefore, the customer will get money Rs 75.
