(v) -16 + 4
Solution:
(i)
Locate the first point +15 on the number line.
To add -3 means, we have to move 3 points to the left of the number line.
The result is+12.
(ii)
Locate the first point +20 on the number line.
To add -10 means, we have to move 10 points to the left of the number line.
The result is+10.
(iii)
Locate the first point -18 on the number line.
To add 5 means, we have to move 5 points to the right of the number line.
The result is -13.
(iv)
Locate the first point +4 on the number line.
To add +5 means, we have to move 5 points to the right of the number line.
The result is +9.
(v)
Locate the first point -16 on the number line.
To add +4 means, we have to move 4 points to the right of the number line.
The result is -12.
IV. Add the following using number line:
(i) (+5) + (-2)
(ii) (+7) + (-2)
(iii) (+6) + (-9)
(iv) 0 + (-4)
(v) (-2) +(-7)
Solution:
(i)
Locate the first point +5 on the number line.
